Station Camp High School

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a 5’10 gay kid, from a family that is thankfully accepting. I know some don’t have that. I moved houses quite a bit because my family was affected by the 2009 housing crisis. I try my best in school, but math isn’t my strong suit. I have a passion for astronomy and most things relating to science. I also love to figure out how to take things apart. When I was young I used to take my toys apart and see how they worked and then tried to put it back together.

What is your greatest strength, and why?

My greatest strength would be my empathy. Ever since I was young I’ve been able to pick up on how people are feeling, and if possible, try to help them.

What is your greatest weakness, and why?

Being shy and not going out much, and being afraid to try new things.

What skills do you need to learn to turn your greatest weakness into your greatest strength?

Skills I need is charisma, I believe it would help immensely.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome, and what did you learn from that?

My biggest challenge was overcoming the death of my mother. I learned that no one is invincible, and even the ones close to you can be at low points.

Why do you deserve this award?

Broadway has always fascinated me. The lights, the shows. I’d love to learn closely, whether it be in the audience or behind the stage.

Who has been a role model for you, and why?

A role model for me would be my brother. When I was young, he saved me when I fell into a pool when I couldn’t swim yet. As humans are, they come with flaws. His was finishing college. But eventually he did finish it, and he did well. He’s happy, with a wife and kid. I look up to him, but I aspire to finish college sooner.

What is the biggest mistake you made, and what have you learned from that mistake?

I used to be a very big liar. It caused some problems years down the line. But I’ve learned that it could hurt people and I could lose close friends because of it.

What activities are you involved in?

My school’s choir, that’s about all. Due to not being comfortable with most things.

How are you giving back to others?

I try to give back to others by doing small random acts of kindness

Tell us about a personal achievement that makes you proud, and what you learned from that achievement?

I’d have to say joining the choir. It used to be something I thought that I never could do, and now I love it. I’ve learned to be slightly more outgoing than I used to.

How do you define being a humble person?

Humble is.. Being modest, caring for others, and not boasting about your possessions

How do you define servant leadership?

It’s a leader that cares about who they’re leading. They aren’t just a leader, but are apart of the group.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I’m usually a quiet person but can be passionate about certain topics, an example would be the sciences.
